Christar Japan: Spreading the Gospel throughout Yamaguchi-ken... |

|
Wes grew up in a Christian home in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia where Biblical principles were reinforced and demonstrated. Wes accepted the Lord at the age of ten after seeing the movie "The Cross and the Switchblade". After graduating from Southern Tech he went on to work several years as a draftsman in the Architectural field. Susan also grew up in Atlanta. She accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was fourteen years of age. She attended Carson Newman College and graduated from Toccoa Falls College with a degree in Broadcasting. Although they had been going to the same church since they were in fifth grade, Wes introduced himself to Susan in eighth grade, and a strong friendship that lasted throughout high school became a blooming romance when they both realized they shared a desire to become missionaries. During college they individually participated in summer mission trips to Manila, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Japan. Each of these experiences was used by God to confirm the calling on their lives to serve full time overseas. They were married in 1994 and then attended Columbia International University where they each received their Masters degree. They joined the Japan field in 2002 and spent their first term studying Japanese language and interning with a Japanese pastor. They are partnering with Chuck and Jan Burwell and Pastor and Mrs. Uchida in Ube to work with the Ube Lighthouse Church. They hope to further this church plant by building relationships through teaching English, kids clubs and coffeehouse ministry. They have two children: Emily (6) and Zach (4).
