Bobby and Hillary Baden
Bobby and Hillary met in 2009 when Hillary went to Japan to teach English with the Christar church planting team Bobby joined in 2006.
Bobby’s journey to ministry among the Japanese began in high school, when he started studying Japanese language. It was not until six years later, as a college student, that Bobby placed his life in the Lord’s hands. Soon after, after visiting Japan, Bobby sensed the Lord’s calling to take the Gospel to the Japanese. While in seminary, Bobby spent several summers working with Christar missionaries in southwestern Japan, and joined that team as a career missionary in Hirao, Japan after graduating in 2006.
Hillary spent a year in Uganda after high school, teaching at an African preschool. Feeling the Lord’s call to career missions, she attended CrossTraining Global, a missionary training program, upon returning to Canada. Through her studies there, she was drawn to ministry in Japan and introduced to the work of Christar there. Working alongside the Christar Central Team in Hirao throughout 2009, Hillary became certain that Japan was the place for her.
Bobby and Hillary were married on July 10, 2010 and returned to Hirao in 2012 to continue church planting among the least-reached in Japan. They have three sons, Joshua (2014), Noah (2016), and Elijah (2019).
