Daniel and Carla Gibson
Daniel was raised in Tennessee by Christian parents, and was baptized at the age of six after making a personal profession of faith in Christ. He recounts, "I didn't have a dramatic transformational experience at the age of six, but, looking back, I know that God has persevered and cultivated my faith in Him over the course of my entire life." After graduating college, Daniel became highly involved as a volunteer leader in a local college ministry, which the Holy Spirit dramatically transformed over the course of several years to eventually produce a core group of church planters. Daniel joined this group begin a new church in an underserved area of their city, and served for several years as an elder before being called to missionary ministry in Japan.
Carla also became a Christian at a young age, and was baptized when she was six years old. Carla remembers that, throughout her entire life, "God has had His hand of protection and guidance upon me, even when many things have gone wrong. I grew up trying to be perfect thinking I have to earn God's love, and I have always struggled with people pleasing. Entering adulthood, I sinned so severely that I thought God might abandon me. He did not, however. Instead, He taught me a great lesson through redeeming me from my sin. He opened my eyes to my sinful arrogance, and showed me mercy, leading me to repentance and forgiveness in Christ alone. I am forever grateful for God's grace after learning the difference between self-righteous legalism and true faith in Jesus."
Daniel and Carla were married right out of college, and have four kids joining them on the mission field. The kids also have a passion to tell others about Jesus. On her first trip to Osaka, Emma was sitting in the KIX airport after landing and asked, "why aren't we telling everybody here about Jesus?" Her enthusiasm and sense of urgency was an encouragement and a challenge to the rest of the family.
The Gibsons are working with Mustard Seed Network in Osaka to support church planting movements from urban cities in Japan. They are also working to develop a Christian homeschool community in the Kansai area.
