Lewis & Esther Lee
Lewis and Esther are Chinese, both born and raised in traditional Chinese style family in Hong Kong. They met at their mother church in 2000 and got married in 2008. They both lived in Hong Kong for over 35 years. They traveled many times to Japan as tourist, volunteer preacher and marketer. Until 2019, God responded to their prayers serving long term in Japan with his mercy and grace as little Matheo joined in their family.
Lewis was baptized at the age of 20 and in 2014, he got his pastoral master degree (MDIV) at Evangel Seminary in Hong Kong, which have a very close relationship with Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, U.S.A. After graduation, he responded to God’s calling in 2011, after the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami by applying Oversea Mission Fellowship as a Partnership Missionary. With the chance provided by his wife’s company to live in Tokyo for 2.5 years, he served as a volunteer preacher in a Chinese church in Kita-Senju, Tokyo and helping a Japanese pastor and Japan Campus Crusade for Christ to explore the evangelical ministry chance in one of the main campus in The university of Tokyo in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. In 2016, his whole family went back to Hong Kong to seek for God’s further calling. He then served as a youth preacher in a mid-scale Evangelical Church and large scale Rhenish Church which is like Lutheran type until his whole family confirming the calling to Japan for long term ministry in 2018.
Esther was baptized at the age of 23 although she started going to church from 5 years old with her brother and cousin. She served youth and as worship member at church for several years after baptized. She graduated with a bachelor degree in occupational therapy and a master of science in marketing management. She worked in a Japanese pharmaceutical company for 10 years as marketer and with God’s leading, she had a chance to work at Tokyo for 2.5 years. With this 2.5 years’ experience, she strongly felt the need of missionary in Japan after working closely with Japanese colleagues. She confirmed the calling from God in 2018 at Japan yearly evangelical meeting held in Hong Kong to serve as a long term missionary.
As Lees family first contacted Christar in 2011 for the short missionary in India, they further contacted Christar again after confirming calling to Japan for ministry in 2020 as their mother church promised to be their sending church. Now they are preparing excitedly to ‘on-board’: fund-raising, visa application, Japanese learning and other administrative stuff.
